MADINAH, 30 October 2007 — The Madinah branch of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice is holding a weeklong orientation course for commission members to train them on how to operate professionally.

The course includes lectures on various topics including regulations governing the arrest of suspects, the difference between detention and arrest and ways of handling violations relating to technological and commercial matters. The participants will be instructed on how to handle suspects in a legal and refined manner without violating human rights. Delivering the course’s inaugural lecture, Abdullah ibn Ali Al-Zahrani discussed legal formalities relating to arrests. Al-Zahrani explained how members were to behave when dealing with violators, and explained how houses and people should be searched.

Sulaiman ibn Saleh Al-Tuwaijeri, director of the commission’s Madinah branch, in his lecture stressed the role of training courses in improving the efficiency of commission members. “The commission is paying special attention toward increasing the efficiency of its members in handling different situations within the legal framework and in a refined manner,” he said.

Meanwhile, the commission announced that it evaluated the performance of its various committees during Ramadan to identify successes and failures in various aspects. The evaluation took place in a recent meeting, which stressed the need to assign special teams to keep a regular watch on public parks in the city during festivals and vacations.
