ISLAMABAD, 9 May 2007 — A close associate of President Gen. Pervez Musharraf resigned from the top post in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Lt. Gen. Shahid Aziz, who had retired from the army as an important corps commander was appointed chairman of the NAB by President Musharraf.
In his book “In the Line of Fire,” Musharraf said Maj. Gen. Shahid played a crucial role in controlling the situation when his plane was not allowed to land in Karachi by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Maj. Gen. Shahid was the director general of military operations then. He was later made chief of general staff. Lt. Gen. Shahid did not give a reason for his resignation.
