LONDON, 13 August 2006 - The UK Islamic Mission on its 43rd national annual conference acknowledged the contribution of individuals in developing the British Muslim community.
In an unprecedented and unique way, individuals from across the country were nominated and five were selected & awarded with the title of Community Champion 2006.
Among the winners was journalist and writer Emdad Rahman, who received a named plaque and admiration from the 3,000 plus audience at the conference.
Emdad, the son of Lutfur Rahman memorized the whole Qur'an after completing his GCSE at the age of 17.
The Community Champions Awards is a project undertaken by the Dawah & Welfare Office of the UK Islamic Mission.
