JEDDAH, 28 January 2006 — Abdul Latif Jameel Company’s Programs for Community Services showed that the company secured 5,540 job opportunities for Saudis of both sexes last year, according to a company report. The ALJ also announced that it plans to offer 10,450 new job opportunities in 2006.
This achievement was obtained through the ALJ Fund for Technical and Vocational Training and Development, which helped to create 2,307 of the jobs last year, and the ALJ Fund for the Support of Organizations and Small Enterprises.
The two funds offered 87 training courses to young Saudis in various cities. The ALJ’s job-training programs include the Saudi-Japanese Automobile Institute, which provided training certificates to 200 Saudi youths, of which 108 were absorbed at ALJ.
The company provided 31 scholarships to students sent abroad for their MBAs. The ALJ also helped to develop teachers’ skills. Last year 59 teachers applied for this program from different parts of the Kingdom.
In 2005, ALJ’s Prisoners Family Day Program helped 3,000 families to visit their loved ones at Jeddah’s Briman Prison.
ALJ also donated two helicopters to the Red Crescent to be used during emergencies.
