JEDDAH, 24 January 2006 — The Social Protection Home announced yesterday that it has handled 10 domestic violence cases of abuse against women and children since its opening last October. These cases were transferred from the Ministry of Social Affairs.
“Five of the 10 cases left the home after they were treated and resolved,” said Fatima Ghazi, the group’s manager.
“When we receive a case, we try to calm the problem and accommodate the victims and offer food and accommodation,” said Ghazi. “After that, we sort each case, open a file with all the related information and then suggest the suitable solution for each woman to enable her to solve her problem. We also help her with anything she needs, such as driving her to the court or hospital.”
Consultations are given not only to the abused women or children, but also to their male abusers who are allowed accompanied visits to the relatives living inside the home.
