JEDDAH, 11 January 2006 — Samsung Electronics said yesterday that it would continue its sponsorship of the Asian Games with the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and the Doha Asian Games Organizing Committee (DAGOC).
The sponsorship agreement grants Samsung exclusive rights to offer its audio and visual, white goods and mobile phone products for service during the Doha 2006 Asian Games.
“Samsung is now a prestige partner in multiple categories for the Doha 2006 Asian Games and it’s a moment of great honor for us to support Doha in hosting one of the world’s greatest and most successful sporting events,” said B.W. Lee, President and CEO, Samsung Middle East & Africa headquarters.
“Samsung has a strong tradition of supporting the world’s best sporting competitions such as the Olympic Games and Asian Games. Such sponsorships provide Samsung with an important platform to showcase its cutting-edge technology and leading products to a valuable audience in Asia and worldwide,” Lee told reporters.
DAGOC Director General Abdullah Khalid Al-Qahtani, who signed the agreement with Sunny Hwang, vice president and head of worldwide sports marketing of Samsung Electronics, signed the deal in the presence of OCA Director General Hussain Al-Mussallam in Doha expressed his appreciation for Samsung’s contribution to Asia’s largest sporting event. Under the agreement, Samsung will provide financial and technical support to the Doha 2006 Asian Games. In addition, Samsung’s audio-visual equipment, mobile phones and home appliances will be used on site at the Games by organizers, staff, media, and volunteers. These products, along with Samsung’s technical expertise, are integral for a seamless execution of the Games. Moreover, Samsung’s support will help athletes, officials and fans share the exciting moments of the Asian Games.
“We’re very pleased that Samsung has made a strong commitment to support the Doha 2006 Asian Games. As one of four Prestige Partners, Samsung will greatly enhance the operation and spirit of the Games. We’ll be working in close association with Samsung to stage a successful event,” said Al-Qahtani.
Samsung is a long-time supporter of the Asian Games, beginning as a local sponsor of the Seoul 1986 Asian Games and continuing as a local sponsor for the Hiroshima 1994 Asian Games.
Samsung’s full commitment to the Asian Games started from 1998, participating as an official partner of the Bangkok Asian Games, and as a multi-category sponsor in the Busan Asian Games in 2002.
Samsung regards sports sponsorship as an effective platform to raise brand awareness and build reputation for excellence in corporate citizenship. Its extensive support of sports, including the Asian Games, is based on its corporate values that celebrate peace, encourage friendly competition and promote unity among people of all cultures. In addition, Samsung has also supported international competitions and events encompassing sports as diverse as the Dubai Desert Classic, Torino Olympics, World Cyber Games, and Samsung Running Festival.
