UAE Population Tops Four Million

DUBAI, 1 August 2006 — The population of the United Arab Emirates has grown in a decade from 2.4 million to 4.1 million, four-fifths of them foreigners, according to Economy Minister Sheikha Lubna Al-Qassimi. At the end of last year, the population stood at 4,104,695, compared with 2,411,041 ten years previously.

The national census quoted by Qassimi did not provide a breakdown by nationality of foreign residents who make up 78.1 percent of the total population.
