RIYADH, 15 October 2005 — The adage “as you grow older you grow wiser” was given the short shrift when two old friends parted ways because of money. But before they broke up or to be more precise their fight was broken up by police and bystanders in a mosque, the two old men — one 75 years of age and the other aged 65 — were friends and neighbors for the last 29 years. The altercation in the mosque was over who would lead the prayers, Al-Watan newspaper reported. With the congregation watching the two friends stubbornly held on to their position — on being the imam. Police had to intervene to break up the fight. Later on it was learned that the issue had become heated because both were eyeing the position of the mosques imam, which pays SR1,800 a month. The two men were released by police on the condition that they stay away from each other.
