JEDDAH, 6 July 2005 — The Labor Ministry yesterday urged all private companies to register with the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) and said violators would not be allowed to recruit foreign workers.
In a statement from the Saudi Press Agency, the ministry also urged private companies to prevent non-Saudis from doing jobs restricted to Saudis. It sought the cooperation of private firms to make Saudization a success.
The ministry called upon security institutions having more than 10 but fewer than 20 employees to appoint at least two Saudis, and those firms having 10 employees at least one Saudi. The new plan comes into effect in Ramadan (Oct. 4).
The ministry has launched a massive nationwide campaign to find jobseekers and employ them in private companies. According to Ahmad Al-Zamil, deputy minister for labor affairs, the ministry has employed 35,000 Saudis during the past four months.
Al-Zamil called upon registered jobseekers to contact labor offices across the country for immediate employment. “We provide necessary training to Saudis having low educational levels in order to get them employed,” he added.
The ministry plans to establish new employment centers in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam within a year in order to set up a database on unemployed Saudis and job opportunities in the Kingdom. It will also provide young Saudis with employment guidance.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd has given SR40 million to the center which will be established by the Manpower Development Fund. The center will also offer free help to Saudi students in order to identify their skills and select their courses and jobs.
