JEDDAH, 11 June 2005 — Dr. Safar Al-Hawali, a popular Saudi scholar, yesterday underwent an operation at Al-Noor Hospital in Makkah after he suffered brain hemorrhage, his office said.
Al-Hawali collapsed yesterday afternoon while receiving guests in the holy city and was taken to hospital in unconscious state.
Thousands of citizens prayed for the sheikh’s quick recovery and exchanged text messages with friends and acquantances expressing their concern.
Doctors described Al-Hawali’s condition as stable and said the surgeons succeeded in removing blood clots from affected areas of his brain.
