Pentagon reveals location of US Navy nuclear-armed submarine in rare move

DUBAI: The Pentagon said a US Navy nuclear-armed submarine has arrived in Gibraltar this week, in a rare reveal of the location of one of its most secretive vessels.

The Navy’s Sixth Fleet said in a press release that the vessel was part of the Ohio-class ballistic submarines, which are known for their ability to launch nuclear missiles.

The statement did not disclose the vessel’s exact name, but it shared an image of the submarine docked in Gibraltar, a British territory off the coast of Spain.

“The port visit demonstrates US capability, flexibility, and continuing commitment to its NATO allies,” the Sixth Fleet said in a press release.
“Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines are undetectable launch platforms for submarine-launched ballistic missiles, providing the US with its most survivable leg of the nuclear triad,” the fleet added.
The Pentagon announcement came as President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s counter offer and told reporters that the US-Iran ceasefire is “on life support.”
The Ohio-class is comprised of 14 ballistic missile submarines and four guided missile submarines.
