JEDDAH, 24 September 2004 — Afghan President Hamid Karzai held talks late Wednesday in Jeddah with Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah.
The Afghan leader, who arrived in the Kingdom earlier in the day, told King Fahd that his country appreciates the generous support and assistance Saudi Arabia has been providing to the Afghan people, saying it has greatly helped the country’s stability and development.
“We in Afghanistan hold full respect for Saudi Arabia and appreciate the Kingdom’s generous support and assistance to the Afghan people. This valuable support from King Fahd has played an important role in Afghanistan’s stability and development,” the Afghan leader was quoted by the Saudi Press Agency as saying during his meeting with the king who received him at Al-Salam Palace.
The two leaders reviewed developments at the Islamic and international levels, focusing on the situation in Palestine and Iraq, in addition to discussing prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation in different areas.
At the meeting with Prince Abdullah at the Crown Prince’s palace in Jeddah, the two discussed regional and international issues in addition to bilateral relations.
The Afghan leader was accompanied by a delegation including Minister of Reconstruction Muhammad Amin, National Security Adviser Dr. Zalmai Rasoul and International Affairs Adviser Inayatullah Qasimi.
