JEDDAH, 17 January 2004 — Families planning getaway breaks during Eid Al-Adha and spring are being offered a wide range of options at InterContinental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn hotels and resorts across the Middle East and North Africa.
Throughout the GCC, and in Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia and Yemen, 60 InterContinental Hotels Group properties are combining to present “great value weekend packages” starting from $50 per night. Additionally, two children under 12 can share their parents’ room free of charge, while full buffet breakfasts are complimentary for the whole family, a team of senior management executives of the group told at press conference at the Jeddah InterContinental Hotel on Sunday.
“At most participating hotels, children are also welcome to choose a free lunch or dinner,” said the team comprising Mohamad Dkeidek, Erik Weinmann and Ashraf Refaat.
The group has begun a new phase in 2004 to reinforce its position as the largest hotel operator in the Middle East. In addition to three new hotels opening next year in Egypt and three more also under development, the company is looking toward a number of other new projects at city and resort destinations across the region. The first of the new hotels, the 452-room InterContinental Abu Soma Resort Red Sea is opening its doors on Egypt’s Red Sea Riviera in April. The 792-room InterContinental Heliopolis Cairo will next become Egypt’s fifth InterContinental property when it opens as part of Citystars Heliopolis Cairo.
Toward the end of next year, a 176-room Holiday Inn Resort will open at Taba in Egypt, giving InterContinental Hotels group a total of 65 InterContinental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn hotels under management in the Middle East.
A new InterContinental hotel at Aqaba in Jordan and another Holiday Inn property at Heliopolis in Cairo are on schedule to open in 2005, and early in 2006 the Holiday Inn Resort Dead Sea will open in Jordan.
