DETROIT, 31 October 2003 — Doug Weight’s third goal of the game late into the final period proved to be the decider as the St. Louis Blues edged Detroit 6-5 on Wednesday, bringing an end to the Red Wings’ club-record 15-game home winning streak.
Weight also scored twice in the opening period, with Dallas Drake assisting on all three of his goals.
Drake had a big night as he helped on both of Peter Sejna’s goals, giving him a five-point haul.Veterans Steve Yzerman and Brett Hull were among the Detroit scorers, with Hull also collecting an assist.
Hull’s goal was the 718th of his career, putting him alone in fourth place on the NHL’s all-time list.

In Philadelphia, the Flyers got goals from five different players in a 5-1 win over the Florida Panthers. Joni Pitkanen and Justin Williams registered first-period goals for Philadelphia, with Jeremy Roenick and Michal Handzus tallying in the second.

In Washington, Sergei Fedorov scored twice, his second and third goals of the season, as the Anaheim Mighty Ducks doubled up on the reeling Capitals, winning 4-2. Washington — bottom of the Eastern Conference — are without a win in eight games.
Penguins 4 Islanders 4
In Pittsburgh, Jason Blake and Mariusz Czerkawski scored 2:48 a part midway through the third period as the New York Islanders rallied for a 4-4 tie with the Penguins. The Islanders had much the better of the play in extra time, out-shooting Pittsburgh 8-2. Mario Lemieux also collected an assist to give him 1,700 career points.
Stars 4 Flames 3 (OT)
In Dallas, Jason Arnott scored 17 seconds into overtime to give the Stars a 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames.
Arnott also assisted on two of team mate Bill Guerin’s three goals, Guerin’s fourth, fifth and sixth of the season.
