RIYADH, 12 April — The fancied ABB Tribe bowling team mentored by Rey Pompa and Leo Mabunga burned the lanes to emerge as the best team of the week and the best bowler of the week honorees in the STBC Sunday Family Bowling League being played at the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Centre.
The ABB Tribe clinched the coveted best team of the week when they clobbered the powerhouse Philippine National Bank team (26-8). The bankable Pat Nave together with the fastrising Mel Solas and Rey Pompa piloted the ABB’s by submitting a separate series of 827, 784 and 771. Prima Abulencia dazzled to score a series of 618 while Glenn Espiritu had 536 series in three matches. Aurel Farinas rolled 369 points in four games. Ace Elmer Penoso led in the Philippine National Bank with a series of 801 in four outings. The reliable Vher Cayago followed Penoso as the next bowler with the best output of 771. Zeny Siapco pocketed a series of 736. Efren Castro and Bernie Sarmiento tallied a separate two game series of 353 and 350.
Leo Mabunga, the best bowler of the week holder powered the RB Lanekings to upset the defending champion, the Stinger team ( 21-7). Mabunga shot a four game series of 861. Supporting Mabunga were fellow members Ted Anis and Laura Ringor who added a separate four game series of 728 and 692. Diony Mabanto, Leo Estacio and Noli Agliam contributed a separate two game series of 398, 371 and 338.
Leading scorers in the Stinger team captained by Boy Fogata was Rina Labo with 732 points. Rey Perez and Art Palustre downed a series of 695 and 683 in four matches while George Avellana pocketed a series of 637. Ricky Simbulan had 421 series and Eddie Eder scored 398 series in two games.
The Barkada quintent proved too strong to humiliate the Philippine Embassy (23-7) and topscoring in the Barkada Claudio Rapadas with 807 series in four outings. Nitz Cruz seared the lanes to score a series of 792 in four games while Lito Regalado and Nino Fajutagana collected a series of 729 and 713. Joe Nakhong had 635 series in three sets.
Arnold “turbo” Salcedo and Arlene Arenas led in the Philippine Embassy by carding a separate four game series of 755 and 728. Lino Durante followed with 707 series. Neil Gafur toppled a series of 535 in three outings. Gin Disomimba submitted a series of 361 in two sets.
