JEDDAH, 5 April — The gunners of Top Gun unleashed their incredible shots to claim the 33rd team of the week award in the Tuesday Night League organized by the Brotherhood Bowling Group here at the 24-lane Jeddah Bowling Center. In the individual category, Cris "veteran" Villavelez unloaded crates of strikes and bagged the honors as the best bowler of the week at a 3-game scratch series of 716.
Gunners Ruben Medina, Bert Tuvera, Leo Edejer and Rudy Valenzuela fired a series of 2,507 and scored 78.5 in their quest for the top honors. Their opponent, D’Amigos, submitted 2,305 and pocketed 41 points.
Top Gun was consistent with their outstanding performances throughout the match after it tied at 21.5 points with Hyperlink "mailto:Internet@Kape" Internet@Kape for hitting 854 apiece at the start of the game. The "gunners" shot 816 equivalent to 17 points at the penultimate set and 837 on the final match (19 points). Their series of 2,507 earned a bonus of 21 points after all team scores were tapered down. The battle of the defending champion SkyFreight Forwarders and the powerhouse Al Alamiah Insektos on lanes 13 and 14 produced down-the-wire actions. Fiery exchange of marks frame by frame took the center stage yet stamina and experience prevailed between the two giants.
Powerhouse Al Alamiah controlled the defending champions from the start when the quartet of Nonie Yap, Hashim Guinomla, Sid Lapena and BBG honcho Arnold Alday rolled off 838 pins (20 points) against the 786 (13) of SkyFreight.
On the second game, war-scarred veteran Cris Villavelez accelerated on high gear, drilled a whooping 278 and led Sky Freight Forwarders in submitting 831 (19 points). Although Rene Santiago assisted Villavelez with his 214, the fighting spirit of Al Alamiah remained high. The "Insektos" never gave up with Sid Lapena leading the team in bagging eight strikes for a 258 scratch. Guinomla fired five strikes (233), Alday connected four strikes for 212 and Yap (182) brought their series to 915 including their 30-pin handicap. Al Alamiah scored the 22 maximum points.
On the crucial final game, SkyFreight Forwarders General Manager Emy de Guzman guided his men to victory. He unleashed his sterling performances, rolled off with precision and scored a big 239. Villavelez maintained his outstanding steady form and shot 233. Fred Monzon (234) and Santiago (204) supported the duo with their powerful hooks and brought their total to 910 pins for the maximum 22 points.
Al Alamiah went unsteady on their swing, met walls of unprecedented splits and merely swept 752 for seven points. SkyFreight loaded their van 76 solid points while Al Alamiah Insektos flew away with 69.
SkyFreight Forwarders, submitting the second highest points during the week, will receive the prize in accordance with the existing rules. Top Gun was already an awardee on the 30th week. SkyFreight proved to the crowd that they are still in top contention for the back-to-back title.
The "veteran" Class "O" bowler Cris Villavelez of the SkyFreight Forwarders bowling team bagged the bowler of the week award in the lines of 205, 278 and 233. The high 278 was his fourth entry to the BBG Elite Club.
Sid Lapena (258) of Al Alamiah Insektos submitted his third card to the BBG Elite Club. Majid Aslani (257) of KKB passed his 4th; and Wilson Triguerro of D’Amigos (255) registered his 2nd entry.
In another pair of lanes, Libby’s Hot Line bowlers Joey Salvador, Lino Traquina, Nick Suing and Mar Narvasa were "peppery hot" that Guess? Team failed to stop them with their impressive pendulum swings. When the fiery salvo of crunching strikes ended and the aromatic smoke of burning spares were cleared Libby’s Hot Line concocted magnificent 72 delectable points. Guess? foursome of Jess Escondo, Gil Ordonez, Danny de Guzman and Ariel Urquia answered the line with merely 20 points.
Otra Cosa fielded an incomplete lineup that resulted to a poor showing during the week, scored 19.5 points. The opposing MBC squad submitted 48 points through the good games played by Benjie Cils and Angel Decena.
N-Ball posted a big threat to Al-Ahadal Establishment at the start of the match when Leo Pangilinan, Alex Tabusares, Bien Hermosura and Jerriel Cacao won the first set at a score of 16-9 points (805-754 pins). On the remaining two games, however, Al-Ahadal ruled the match through the incredible triumvirate of Rey Beltran, Ramis Ayoub and Louie Bautista. The final tally was 59-52.
KKB bowlers Randy Mata, Ver Luz, Cyril Balasico and Majid Aslani recorded another remarkable victory (67 points) to improve their ranking in the table. This week KKB blasted Seiko throughout the match, the latter merely scored 34 points.
The duo of Aga Mitmug and Danny Cofreros pulled up PICPA-Pro on the two remaining games after suffering from a initial loss at the hands of the team with four question marks and one exclamation point (????!). The "accountants" earned 35.5 point-credits while the latter team had 32.
Hyperlink "mailto:Internet@Kape" Internet@Kape lost to Saudi Diyar Consultants on the final leg yet the team of Goying Salazar, Roger Dacquioag, Ador Torres and Ishaq Mohammad was able to snatch 53 points. The victory on the last game of Saudi Diyar through Larry Santos, Jerry Valle, Raul de los Reyes and Nestor Casalme brought their total points to 43.5.
Fred Monzon of SkyFreight Forwarders was the first winner of a dinner certificate for two persons at The Steakhouse-Jeddah courtesy of its Assistant Manager Malik Mourani. Indefatigable Arnold C. Alday chairs the BBG Tuesday Night League here at the Jeddah Bowling Center.

Al Amoudi Sports Center (Jeddah), through General Manager Abdulrahman Al Amoudi, who gave sports items to be given away to the participants over the course of the league.
