RIYADH, 31 December — Police are currently investigating the suspected murder of a Sri Lankan housemaid who was working with a Saudi family. The head of the family has been released by police after they found he did not have any role in the maid’s death. However, his wife is still being detained in the women’s jail as the police strongly suspect that she pushed the maid down the stairs. The maid died of her injuries. The dead body displayed serious head injuries, according to an autopsy report. A social worker who has been working with the investigators said the family which employed the Sri Lankan maid over the past one year is in extreme financial difficulties. The head of the family, who is a government employee, is an alcoholic. One of his three daughters is divorced with a child. All the daughters have refuted the charge that their mother pushed the maid down the stairs, the social worker said.
