Toxic chemicals used in fishing

JEDDAH, 2 August — Fisheries authorities in Jeddah have found that some fishermen were using deadly chemicals and pesticides in their bid to catch large quantities of fish in a short time. The authorities are investigating four expatriate fishermen arrested by border guards for using gunpowder and other banned materials in fishing. Madani Gazzaz, director of the Fisheries Office in Jeddah, said using toxic chemicals for fishing was a violation of the law.
