RIYADH, 20 June — The Saudi authorities yesterday gave motor vehicle-owners a six-month grace period beginning from June 23 to renew their road license (istimara) and change number plates without fines. “They need to pay just the fees for renewing istimara and the new plates,” the traffic department said.
It said the owners of unusable vehicles, who want to sell them to shops dealing with old spare parts, would be exempted from istimara fees and fines if they submit their number plates and istimaras to the department so that they could be removed from records. Those who want to renew their istimaras should complete MVPI tests.
The department has set apart the first month for the renewal of 1975 to 1978 model vehicles, the second month for ’79 to ’82 models, third month for ’83 to ’86, fourth month for ’87 to ’90, fifth month for ’91 to’ 94 and sixth for ’95 to ’98, with one week allocating for a single model. (SPA)
