DUBAI: American actress Lindsay Lohan has been criticized after confronting a homeless family, whom she identified as refugees from Syria, London daily Evening standard reported.
As seen on the 10-minute live video on Instagram, Lohan approached the family, asked the two young boys if they wanted to come with her and said: “It would be so cool to watch a movie on a TV or a computer."
The parents refused and started to move away from the actress but Lohan suddenly snapped, telling the mother: “You should be a hard-working woman and you should be doing what you can for your children, so they have a better life.”
Lohan insisted to take the children, and accused the parents of “child trafficking” and “ruining Arab culture.”
Towards the end of the video, Lohan fell to the floor as she was seemingly pushed by the mother.
Lohan was reportedly speaking some Arabic and Russian, but it wasn’t clear where the interaction took place.
Netizens quickly lambasted Lohan for the video, accusing her of trying to “kidnap” the children. Others called the video “awful,” “disgusting” and “uncomfortable to watch.”
One person said that Lohan demonstrated “white saviorism”: “Everyone’s cracking jokes about Lindsay Lohan trying to steal two Syrian refugee kids from their parents & getting punched in retaliation live on Instagram - but I’m actually outraged at her blatant white saviorism.”
