RIYADH: The German Embassy in Riyadh hosted a screening of three Saudi short movies in the presence of the directors.
The large number of guests included Saudi filmmakers, artists and citizens, as well as members of the German community.
The films were “A photographic memory” by Tareq Yosef Al-Dakheelallah, and “Daesh Girl” and “The Wife of the Rose” by Abdulmohsen Al-Mutairi.
Germany and Saudi Arabia enjoy “strong relations in different sectors, including culture and entertainment,” said German Ambassador Dieter Haller.
The screening was followed by an interactive session. “The directors took questions and answered them, as this was an opportunity to interact with the audience, and to test the reactions of the very diverse group of spectators at the embassy,” said Rafael Heinisch, the German cultural attache.
“In addition, the directors and audience discussed new possibilities following the opening of cinemas and the announcement of increased film funding in Saudi Arabia.”
The screening was part of a series of cultural events at the embassy. The next screening is scheduled for after the summer break.
“These screenings are a chance to provide a forum for exchange and dialogue between the Saudi film scene, the diplomatic community and the general public,” said Heinisch.
Such interactions will help boost cultural cooperation between the Kingdom and Germany, particularly in the film and entertainment sectors, he added.
