DUBAI: Saudi Arabia were named as the best Arab national team at the Globe Soccer Awards, which were held in Dubai on Thursday.
At a star-studded ceremony, Adel bin Mohammed Ezzat — president of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation — accepted the award which recognized the Green Falcons’ efforts in qualifying for the FIFA World Cup in Russia next year.
Meanwhile, in recognition of his fine work in getting Egypt to their first finals in nearly 30 years, Hector Cuper scooped the best Arab national team coach prize.
Other award recipients included Cristiano Ronaldo (player of the year), Zinedine Zidane (coach of the year) as well as Francesco Totti and Carles Puyol (career awards).
On his award, Ronaldo said: ”It is a special moment and I am very happy to receive this award, I would like to thank the coach, my team-mates and Real Madrid. Thanks to the people that voted for me and do the same next year.”
