Betty Crocker, along with Panda Retail Company, has set a new Guinness World Records title for the largest marble cake on the occasion of Saudi Arabia’s 87th National Day and Betty Crocker’s 50th anniversary in the region.
The bake-off for the new Guinness World Records title was unveiled at Al-Andalus Mall in Jeddah, measuring 16 square-meters and weighing 733 kilograms with approximately 1,500 Betty Crocker marble cake mixes. The cake was created by 22 bakers and decorated with 1,150 Betty Crocker cake frosting boxes to model 87th Saudi National Day on top of the cake.
It took the bakers almost two days to complete the cake before the Guinness World Records adjudicator, Kevin Richard South, officially confirmed it as the “largest marble cake ever.”
To comply with Guinness World Records guidelines, the largest marble cake had to meet specific requirements set by the organization.
The cake must contain standard ingredients of a marble cake and must weight 250 kilograms or above in order to break the record. The event was attended by Betty Crocker executives and Guinness World Records officials.
Ali Shaikh, commercial manager for General Mills in the Middle East, said: “It’s a day of pride. We would like to congratulate King Salman and the Saudi people on their 87th National Day. The idea behind creating the Guinness World Records title for the largest marble cake was to celebrate the National Day, which falls on Betty Crocker's 50th anniversary in an extraordinary ‘grand style.’ It is our way of showing gratitude, admiration and appreciation toward the community.”
Rayan Mohammed Fayez, CEO of Panda, said: “It gives us great pleasure to celebrate this precious occasion, the 87th Saudi National Day, with one of the greatest partners of Panda Retail Company. We would like to congratulate King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and all citizens and residents of Saudi Arabia. May Allah keep this country safe. We also would like to congratulate Betty Crocker for their 50th anniversary, wishing them more success for the coming years.”
After the record was confirmed, the cake was cut into 4,800 individual portions and distributed to visitors at the mall and a non-profit organization — the Saudi Food Bank.
