Court jails women for exchanging profanities

Jeddah’s criminal court has sentenced two women to a 10-day jail term and 20 lashes for exchanging profanities on WhatsApp.
One of the women had filed a complaint against her cousin accusing her of slander. The court was shown the exchange. The judge issued the sentence as a deterrent against misconduct and the severing of families ties.
Attempts to reconcile the women, however, failed.
The women also objected to the ruling and demanded an appeal.
They will be given 30 days to present their objections to the court, after which their right to appeal will be revoked and the ruling will stand.
