Those who are familiar with the history of Saudi Arabia know for sure that the Kingdom was created after a long struggle against local and foreign powers. The first attempts for the creation of the Kingdom began in the middle of the 15th century. Two major attempts to unite the Arabian Peninsula failed but our founding fathers had a dream and they were determined to realize it.
The founder of Saudi Arabia, King Abdul Aziz, finally succeeded in uniting a fragmented tribal society in 1932. However, this great achievement wasn’t without heavy sacrifices because thousands had lost their lives in the many wars fought to make that dream a reality. Nevertheless, the foundations of the new Kingdom became stronger day after day due to the far-sighted strategic planning that withstood many conspiracies hatched by hostile external forces.
In fact, one of the main reasons that helped the Kingdom stand the tests of time is that the various leaders who assumed power were graduates of King Abdul Aziz’s school of thought.
Human history is full of examples about the rise and fall of civilizations, mighty empires and great kingdoms. Historians and political thinkers gave many explanations as to how these entities built and lost their power; whether by political strife, economic factors, rebellions or other forces. Many historians believe that understanding history is the key to ensuring a better future and our leaders are fully aware of this fact.
Political analysts believe that one of the reasons behind the fall of the former Soviet communist regime was that it had stagnated and failed to develop. In our case, the Saudi leadership has read history very well, and this has helped instill new blood in the veins of our ruling system.
This fact was very much evident in the recent press conference addressed by Deputy Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, in which he announced the formation of an Islamic alliance to fight terrorism.
After the press conference, he tactfully answered journalists’ questions. I feel very proud that our leadership is uniting the Muslim world under one slogan: “I’m Muslim, I’m against terrorism.” Our leadership believes in unity and fully understands the impact of social, cultural and moral factors that bring people together.
