Elite Hair Protein: For healthy, lustrous hair

Natural hair relies on a balance between proteins, nutrients, and oils to support healthy roots. Natural hair is approximately 91 percent protein and is made up of long chains of amino acids. Using harsh chemical treatments, exposing the hair to the sun, pollution and lack of proper care can lead the hair to break up these chains resulting in brittle and dull hair. Since the hair is made up of protein it would only make sense to treat your hair with protein.
A person with fragile hair should use conditioners that have protein ingredients to help strengthen the hair follicle. These conditioners will add moisture to damaged hair and prevent it from being damaged due to heat styling, and even mend split ends temporarily until the hair naturally repairs itself.
According to Rehab, hair specialist at Eve Salon in Jeddah, the Elite Hair Protein repair is a reconstructive and strengthening treatment where protein particles, in addition to a percentage of collagen, are used in appropriate concentration levels to create a strong coating on hair follicles and to harden the hair cuticle. “The treatment enables hair recovery, growth, strengthening through three attained results: intensive conditioning and damage recovery of hair strands, strong coating on hair follicles that eliminates hair breakage and prevention of split ends, and texture nourishment that ends hair knots and hair fall,” she said.

When should one get the treatment done?
This treatment is not meant for any particular hair type; it has something to add to almost every hair type. What makes this treatment so unique is that it gives your hair exactly what it needs to gain vitality and volume, no matter how healthy or damaged the hair is.
This procedure should be conducted only by well-experienced hair repair specialists who are able to evaluate the required intensity of treatment according to the current state of the hair, and of course, according to the desired final hair look of the client.
The treatment can be used as a severe rectifier for highly damaged hair, a softener for frizzy hair, a straightener for wavy and curly hair, or simply a nourishment treatment for the purpose of easy and effective maintenance.

Why does one need to get the treatment done?
Because the results of this treatment appeal to almost all hair types, there are various reasons clients prefer this treatment. Now that summer is here, many prefer it to maintain a healthy look throughout the party and travel season. Soft healthy hair is very easy to style and maintain. Those who are traveling for the summer are looking for a glamorous style for their hair, but at the same time, a look that requires low maintenance and minimum grooming time. Others have chosen it to prevent damage from color. Finally, beach lovers use the Elite Hair Protein treatment to protect their hair from sun and salt-water damage.

How often should one get the treatment done?
On average, effectiveness of the treatment lasts from eight months to a year, depending on the nature of the hair. We usually recommend a retouch session within a month from the original treatment date, to reinforce effectiveness. After the retouch, results are guaranteed to last for a long time.

How would you compare hair Botox and hair protein?
Hair Botox is an older version of the repair treatment. The current Elite Hair Protein is new and improved, with stronger and longer lasting results. It is particularly more advanced in its protein and collagen content.
I booked a session at the Eve Salon in Jeddah to experience the treatment myself. The whole treatment process took around three hours. The treatment started with the hair specialist shampooing my hair twice. She was aware that my hair is natural and devoid of all chemicals and coloring. “Colored hair do not need washing it twice because the hair is already partly stripped but natural hair is fully covered and protected,” said Rehab.
After washing the hair, the specialist used a hair dryer, transforming my hair from wet to moist. “It is medically recommended that you don’t use a hair dryer on your hair until 20 minutes have passed after washing it,” said Rehab. This would harm your scalp, hair and brain. I would prefer if you wrap your hair in a towel for 20 minutes to protect it from the cold air-conditioner. Exposing hair to the air conditioner can tear it apart; after 20 minutes start drying your hair from the bottom up,” she added.
She later sectioned the hair into parts, and applied the product on each part. She them wrapped it in nylon and left it on for an hour. “After this the product is washed off and the hair is dried completely,” said Rehab. “This is because you will need to use a straitening iron to help with the shine and the texture and you really need to use it when the hair is 100 percent dry to avoid the harm the it might cause,” she added.
The final step involves washing the hair after 20 minutes of ironing it. “You need this last step to leave the hair fresh. Once you dry the hair with a hair dryer. you are good to go,” said the specialist.
According to Rehab, there are certain steps one needs to follow after the treatment to keep the hair in shape and that guarantee the treatment will last at least eight months. “The first step involves the use of shampoo and conditioner that is made especially for this treatment, it is usually made with collagen,” she said. “Always dry your hair after the shower and never use any kind of mask or treatment for at least six months,” she added.
When it comes to restrictions, Rehab says pregnant women and nursing mothers should not apply this treatment or any kind of treatment until they consult their doctor. “If you are looking to dye your hair in a new color, I would prefer to do the treatment first and after three to five washes, you can dye your hair,” she said. “Hair protein will cover your hair with a layer of product, which will prevent your hair from coloring and it might actually change your desired color. This is why you shouldn’t dye your hair before the treatment,” she added.
