Lewis, Ahmed rule Meem By GIB Open Golf Tournament

The Meem By GIB Open Golf Tournament 2015 was held on Saturday, capping a busy month of tournament golf at Dirab Golf & Country Club on the outskirts of Riyadh.
Dean Lewis and Hasan Ahmed both enjoyed near flawless game and shared center stage as the Overall Best Gross champion and Overall Best Net champion respectively in this event that was scheduled for Jan. 24 but was postponed due to the death of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah.
Lewis did justice to his handicap of 2 when he shot a winning round of 1-over 73 on the flat but challenging tree-lined layout.
Starting at No. 1, Lewis parred the first five holes, bogeyed the sixth hole but did not drop a shot after that to be on 37 going out. He then played the backnine holes at level par 36 with bogey on 11 and birdie on 14.
Ahmed, a Pakistani Canadian passport holder who played off 18 handicap, was far and away the best on the day as he fired the low net of 63 in soft conditions after heavy rain that lashed the city Friday.
Shooting nines of 42-39, Ahmed’s highlight holes were Nos. 3, 6, and 17, which he both birdied. He had seven pars, four bogeys and four double bogeys.
The Filipino father-and-son tandem of Resty and Christer Rem Sibug finished 1-2 in the Men’s First Division (0-9) on 71 and 72 from gross scores of 76 and 81 and handicaps of 5 and 9 respectively. Ali Al Sakha was third on 74.
Filipino Chito Conde, won the Second Division (10-18) title on 65 (83-17) with Gary Stobie and Moiz Ahmed claiming the second and third positions on countback after they tied on 69. Stobie, with a 15 handicap, beat out Ahmed, an18 handicap golfer, for the runner-up prize in the division with a better backnine score of 40 to Ahmed’s 43.
Another Filipino, Mario Marimon, was the Third Division (19-28) champion on 67 with the next two winners again decided via the countback. When the backnine scores were compared to break the tie, it was Orazio Moretti that emerged second and Yasir Al Rumayyan third. Moretti who had a backnine score of 43 and Al Rumayyan with 45 were tied on 70.
Korean Mi Ra Jung took the Ladies Division crown on 72 with Hyejin Byon and Susan Tessier in second and third places after the countback was applied to break their tie on 74.
To Andrew Sullivan and Jung went the longest drive awards for men and ladies while Tessier nabbed the nearest to the pin plum.
In addition to trophies the winners received prizes of golf merchandise. Winning the grand raffle draw prize of Mizuno irons set was Aries Ramirez.
Gulf International Bank CEO Yahya A. Alyahya attended the prize distribution ceremony along with his Meem team, Nader Khalifa Shaheen, head of | of Corporate Communications, and Sakhar Al Mullham, the head of Meem. Also present was Fahad Abunayyan, Abunayyan Sons Group deputy general manager, and Tariq Javed, Dirab Golf Committee chairman.
Alyahya handed out prizes to the winners and confirmed that henceforth this GIB tournament will be an annual event. Abunayyan presented Alyahya with a plaque of appreciation for his generous sponsorship of tournament.
