Police in Jazan have arrested a man for pouring boiling water on his wife.
The man, a drug addict, kept pouring boiling water on his spouse until she passed out after she asked for a divorce and her documents, which he had hidden from her.
The woman, who has been sedated and kept under observation after being transferred to a local hospital for treatment, told neighbors that she had been subjected to violence by her husband for a long time.
“I want an end to my nightmares,” one of her neighbors quoted her as saying. “I also want my formal documents, which he refuses to give despite my continuous requests.”
“I want my full rights and compensation for the years of misery I endured with him, which got me to where I am now,” she reportedly told the neighbor.
Abdulrahman Al-Zahrani, Jazan police spokesman, confirmed to Arab News that the woman is undergoing treatment at Sibya Hospital and that investigation into the incident is under way.
Mohammed Samala, Jazan Health Affairs media spokesman, confirmed that doctors at the hospital’s emergency ward treated the woman for second degree burns on different parts in her body.
The woman, who has 10 children with the man, told Arab News that her problems started a few years after she got married 30 years ago.
“My suffering started twelve years ago after we moved to Sibya,” she recalls.
The victim’s husband had begun using drugs and abusing his wife.
“He used to hit me, curse me and torture me. He reached a point where he would break my fingers, nose and arms,” she said.
The woman tried to get out of the cycle of violence by filing a lawsuit and asking for a divorce, to no avail.
“This prompted me to run away to hide with my married son, but my husband conned me into going back to him,” she said. “He then prevented me from visiting my family. He even refused to allow me to go to my father’s funeral.”
