A Saudi fighter with the Islamic State (IS) has reportedly taken his children to fight with him in Syria.
Ahmad, 10, and Abdullah, 11 appeared in a photograph with the man, in which one of the boys can be seen carrying a Kalashnikov rifle and raising his index figure, while the second is holding a hand grenade with the IS flag in the background.
Sources said that the man must have sneaked his children into Syria via Turkey before the Saudi Embassy in Ankara received word of their travel since the children appeared healthy in the photos.
Illegal entry into Syria through the Turkish border is relatively easy because of the 900-km-long border between the two countries.
The man had also fought with Al-Qaeda in Iraq, according to sources.
On Sunday, Jeddah’s Special Criminal Court sentenced four men to prison for traveling abroad to fight in Syria. “They violated their pledge of allegiance to the ruler by traveling abroad to fight,” the court ruled.
The men were sentenced to terms ranging between four months and two years and 10 months. Their crimes included forgery of travel documents and money-laundering.
