The Eastern Province police arrested 5,950 illegal expats in cities across the region during Ramadan.
Col. Ziad Al-Ruqaiti, Eastern Province media spokesman, said policemen referred violators to deportation centers affiliated with the province’s prisons.
Al-Ruqaiti said that multiple security raids were conducted since the beginning of the year as part of ongoing security campaigns and programs to track down and seize labor law and residency violators.
Inspection campaigns were carried out with the participation of several authorities, such as the local labor office, the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (CPVPV) and the Eastern Province Municipality.
“Raids were intensified during the holy month of Ramadan since many beggars tend to come from outside the province and gather in specific locations,” he said.
“Authorities have arrested 76,149 violators since the beginning of the legalization campaign. Security and inspection campaigns will continue to curb this phenomenon.”
