Security forces at the Grand Mosque managed to catch and restrain a mentally ill man who assaulted two security officers with a sharp object at the Grand Mosque when they tried to hold him back.
“Security forces tackled the man, in his thirties, the instant they realized that he was in possession of a sharp instrument,” said Makkah police spokesman Aati Al-Qurashi.
The man resisted arrest, injuring one guard in his hand and stabbing another, who had to be hospitalized following the incident.
On examination, the man was found to be suffering from mental illness.
Yahya Al-Zahrani, commander of Special Forces at the Grand Mosque, paid a visit to the hospitalized guard and conveyed the well-wishes of Interior Minister Prince Mohammed bin Naif.
