Field teams of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) confiscated more than 100,000 counterfeit auto spare parts worth over SR3 million from two warehouses in Al-Faisaliyah district, southern Riyadh, local media said.
The two warehouses, run by foreign workers, used to change the country of origin of the counterfeit auto spare parts and replace them with labels of well-known brands.
The warehouses were immediately closed down and the owners along with the foreign workers summoned to complete the required investigation procedures, Al-Riyadh daily said.
Upon inspection of the two warehouses, inspectors found a number of counterfeit spare parts including car batteries, oil, lubricants, and shock-absorbers belonging to a variety of models such as Toyota, Nissan, Land Rover, Mercedes, Honda, Ford, Dodge, and Chrysler, the paper said.
The ministry has always maintained that it will continue inspection tours on the markets, food warehouses, shops and all commercial establishments, to ensure their compliance with regulations and eliminate fraudulent practices. It also stressed that it will exercise zero tolerance with the violators and those involved in frauds which puts the health and safety of consumers at risk.
The ministry, further, calls on all consumers to report complaints and observations to its hotline, 800 124 1616.
