The Hurricanes appeared in good shape with a 2-1 lead after center Jeff Skinner scored on a penalty shot with 7:53 to play, before New York scored three times in the last seven minutes.
Red Wings 7 Devils 4: Right winger Johan Franzen had two goals and two assists to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a win over the New Jersey Devils.
The Red Wings led 5-3 after a wild second period in which seven goals were scored.
New Jersey goalie Cory Schneider stopped 25 shots but also allowed seven goals for the first time in his career.
Panthers 2 Sabres 0: Goalie Roberto Luongo, playing his first game with Florida since 2006, led the Panthers to a home victory over the Buffalo Sabres.
The Panthers also got power-play goals from center Jesse Winchester and defenseman Dmitry Kulikov in a battle of the two bottom teams in the Eastern Conference.
Luongo was traded to the Panthers this week from the Vancouver Canucks.
Flames 4 Islanders 3: The Calgary Flames came from behind to beat the New York Islanders, who frittered away a two-goal lead, for the second successive night.
Right winger Joe Colborne scored twice for Calgary in the third period, the first two-goal effort of his NHL career.
Penguins 3 Ducks 2 (SO): Pittsburgh center Brandon Sutter scored on a backhander in the sixth round of a shootout, giving the Penguins a road victory over the Anaheim Ducks.
Anaheim center and captain Ryan Getzlaf fired wide in his attempt to extend the shootout in a heavyweight matchup of the top teams in their respective conferences.
