One person was killed when a gas explosion led to the collapse of a one-story building in Jeddah on Wednesday.
Rescue teams and firefighters immediately arrived at the scene to search for victims under the debris using a sensor, where they found the body of a man in his thirties. They also found a woman of African descent at the scene prior to launching the search operations, whom they referred to authorities and whose identity remains unknown, according to Col. Saeed Sarhan, Civil Defense spokesman for the Makkah region.
A liquor den was unearthed during the search and rescue operations. “A total of 58 gallons (220 liters) of liquor were found after lifting the debris,” he said.
Initial investigation revealed that the location was a rest house before it was turned into a liquor den. Jeddah police have taken over the case, while the body of the victim has been transferred to a local hospital.
