Commerce and Industry Minister Tawfiq Al-Rabiah on Sunday appointed six members, including two women, to the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s board of directors.
The two women are Lama Sulaiman and Sarah Baghdadi. Other appointed members are: Saleh Kamel, Hassan Abu Taleb, Emad Al-Muhaideb and Hani Saab.
The six join the winners of JCCI board elections who are: Mazen Batterjee, Nussar Al-Sulami, Mohammed Khoja, Khalaf Al-Otaibi, Fahd Al-Sulami, Hassan Al-Sahafi, Ziyad Al-Bassam, Abdullah Binmahfouz, Fayez Al-Harbi, Ahmed Al-Marbaee, Abdul Aziz Al-Sorayai and Saeed Binzagr.
Al-Rabiah said the new board will serve for four years. The appointment of women to the board is significant as all the women candidates had failed to win any seat in the election.
This situation had prompted Saeed Ali Asiri, a prominent businessman, to call for a women-only chamber of commerce and industry to protect their interests in the Kingdom.
