Tabuk Gov. Prince Fahd bin Sultan opened the Walidain Mosque he established in honor of his parents during a ceremony here on Wednesday. Islamic Affairs Minister Saleh Al-Asheikh, senior government officials and a large number of citizens and residents took part in the event.
Addressing the ceremony, Al-Asheikh commended Prince Fahd for setting a good example to others by building a huge mosque that can accommodate 15,000 worshippers. He said the mosque would benefit not only the city’s residents but also foreigners including Haj and Umrah pilgrims as it is located on the international road.
The minister noted the excellent construction of the mosque, reflecting the beauty of Islam and its civilization. “The name of the mosque would encourage others to do goodness to their parents,” he added.
Speaking to reporters after the opening ceremony, Prince Fahd remembered the great contributions of his late father Prince Sultan to Islam and Muslims as well as the humanity. Prince Sultan was the Kingdom’s crown prince and deputy premier when he died on Oct. 22, 2011.
The governor thanked all those who contributed to the mosque’s construction, especially Saudi engineer Nabil Abbas. Construction work began two years ago. The mosque has six minarets and a large courtyard surrounded by gardens and palm trees. There is a special prayer hall for women that can accommodate 3,000 worshippers. It is an outstanding landmark in Tabuk City.
