JUST DAYS before the results of the 2013 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Formula 1 drivers Mark Webber and Charles Pic, who drive for the Renault-powered Infiniti Red Bull Racing and Caterham F1 Teams respectively, electrified Dubai by riding through the city in iconic electric-powered Renault Twizy cars.
The drivers powered down the roads of Jumeirah, Downtown Dubai, and Safa Park in Twizy cars.
Webber said: “Driving down Dubai’s iconic roads and alleys was an amazing experience. What made it even more special was the fact that the Twizy is a green car. The silence inside the vehicle was pretty impressive.”
Pic said: “We enjoyed our time in the UAE, more so with the interesting Renault Twizy. I had a pleasant drive in a 100 percent electric car, which could be the star car of the future. It was a great experience to drive the car in such a wonderful place.”
Renault has teamed up with Formula 1 drivers Mark Webber and Charles Pic to make an original ad film featuring the Renault Twizy as part of an online promotional campaign launched from November.
The storyboard highlights the strengths and features of the Renault Twizy in clean, uncluttered shots. Avant-garde design, fun to drive, 100 percent electric and easy to recharge, Twizy has charmed the people of Dubai. A cinch to park and a snap to recharge, the easy-to-handle vehicle is perfect for zipping to the beach, boutique hopping, and spending some quality time in the evening alone or as a couple.
Like the Formula 1 drivers, the opportunity to test-drive the 100 percent electric vehicle in the Middle East is open to anyone. People in the UAE will gain the chance to get behind the wheel of the Twizy between Nov. 1 and Dec. 20 at the Renault showroom of Al Qiyadah.
Present in Formula 1 since 1977, Renault has won 12 Constructors’ World titles and 11 Drivers’ World titles, plus more than 200 pole positions and 150 wins as an engine supplier. The current power plant, the Renault RS27, is a 750bhp V8 engine, in use since 2007. The engine is supplied to four partner teams - Infiniti Red Bull Racing, Lotus F1 Team, Caterham F1 Team and Williams F1 Team.
In 2012, this quartet scored 9 wins and a total of 839 points, with Infiniti Red Bull Racing securing both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ championships. In the Indian Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel and Infiniti Red Bull Racing secured a fourth consecutive double title, only the third team in F1 to have done so.
