A young Saudi man who weighed 610 kg four months ago was overjoyed after doctors at King Fahd Medical City in Riyadh helped him reduce his weight to 460 kg.
Khaled Shaeri is undergoing a special dietary regime and intensive naturopathic treatment at the hospital.
Dr. Ayed Al-Qahtani, consultant in laparoscopic surgery and obesity and the head of the medical team treating the patient, has expressed satisfaction over the progress achieved by Shaeri.
“Shaeri is responding fast to the treatment. It is very encouraging,” said Al-Qahtani, who is leading a team of 21 doctors and consultants. “There is considerable improvement in his social and mental condition.”
Shaeri’s weight was brought down by 100 kg within the last two months.
He said Shaeri’s heart and liver functions have improved substantially. “Doctors have also noticed improvement in the muscle power of his legs,” he said.
“A lot of fat has been removed from his body,” Al-Qahtani said. “We have also controlled his blood sugar levels. We hope that he will be able to live a normal life within a short span of time.”
