JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed its strong commitment to managing energy for a sustainable future, urging all parties and stakeholders attending the UN Framework Conference for Climate Change/COP-19-CMP9 in Warsaw to work together on common guiding principles and actions that converge on innovation, collaboration and investments.
Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Ali Al-Naimi will lead the Kingdom’s delegation at the UNFCCC-COP19-CMP9.
It takes place in Poland from Nov. 11 to Nov. 22.
Saudi Arabia recognizes the challenges of providing sustainable energy to a growing global population while minimizing environmental impact, and is aware of the need for global solutions, Al-Naimi said.
The Kingdom will continue to discuss viable strategies with the objective of implementing a global agreement suitable for all stakeholders that recognized equity and common, but differentiated responsibilities of all parties, Al-Naimi added.
“To inspire action, we need to catalyze and advance sustainable development plans for all countries with the focus on providing the necessary means for developing countries, taking into account their national priorities and circumstances to enhance climate actions with workable plan and solutions,” Al-Naimi said.
Well aware of these challenges, Saudi Arabia remains a major player in enhancing existing and building new workable systems for a sustainable future.
Saudi Arabia’s delegation at the COP19 will continue to work with dedication with various parties and stakeholders to achieve these objectives.
While Saudi Arabia is well endowed with abundant oil and gas resources, which serve as primary sources of energy to the world, the Kingdom is diversifying its energy mix, making significant investments in renewable energy, and technology, research and development initiatives, underlining a strong commitment to prudent management of resources.
The Kingdom’s focus areas in sustainable energy management are: Carbon management and energy technologies; Energy efficiency; Energy sustainability; Renewable energy; Gas recovery, flare management and minimization.
“The Kingdom has prioritized utmost attention in educating its young generation about the importance of managing energy for a sustainable future. We are conscious that contributing to global efforts in enhancing existing and developing future energy systems is in the best and long term interests of the Kingdom.”
During COP19, Saudi Arabia’s delegation will strive toward viable solutions with their international counterparts, Al-Naimi noted.
“COP 19 will serve to foster greater dialogue and provides everyone the opportunity to work together on common guiding principles and actions that enjoy convergence in innovation, collaboration and investment,” he said.
