Five people have been killed in floods in Arar this week, the Directorate General of Health Affairs in the Northern Province said Sunday. At least nine people were injured and treated at local hospitals.
Arar was in a state of mourning Sunday over the flood tragedy, which laid bare the inadequacy of field services in rescuing flood victims.
Residents called urged authorities to provide lifeboats, divers, helicopters and rescue and search equipment to rescue the marooned.
Ibrahim Abu Ras, mayor of Hail, ordered service and field departments in Hail and neighboring areas to take precautionary measures to ensure the safety of people and properties. He cited weather forecasts that predicted heavy rains in the area. The Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME) said Sunday it expects gusty rain and cloudy weather in Qassim and the Northern Borders Province. The condition will extend to the northeast of the country in the next couple of days.
Similar weather conditions will prevail in the southeastern highlands, including Asir, Jazan and Fursan Island. Surface winds are likely to reduce visibility.
Humidity will increase in the east and west of the Kingdom, with chances of fog at night and in the early morning hours.
In addition, high tides of about 1 to 1.5 meters are expected.
