Adwa Al-Dakheel, a 20-year-old student, majoring in business and psychology in Boston, Massachusetts, is one of the first Saudi women to create a sensation on YouTube with her remarkable musical talent.
Al-Dakheel was raised in a house that greatly appreciates music and art in general. When she was only 7 years old she tried to learn how to play the piano but that did not work out for her, so she turned her attention to guitars, and that was when her true passion for music surfaced. She grew up listening to Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears; she would listen to instrumental music and try to play along.
She is also a poet who began writing at the young age of 8, receiving a prize from the International Society of Poets in Washington DC. She was invited again the year after and won a trophy for “An Outstanding Achievement in Poetry” and a medal.
Her passions go well hand in hand, allowing her to compose music to the lyrics she writes and synchronize the melody to match the feel of her poems. Music and poetry have always been a refreshing creative outlet for Al-Dakheel.
The music videos Al-Dakheel uploaded of herself on YouTube also attracted the attention of Saudi-based Libra products and resulted in a fruitful contract signing, whereby Libra productions began managing the young artist’s albums
Al-Dakheel recently released her first acoustic album on iTunes and it is now sold in Virgin Mega Stores.
Her second album would include vocals, violins, qanun, oud, piano and other instruments, said Al-Dakheel.
