Higher Education Minister Khaled Al-Anqari on Saturday signed a number of contracts worth SR2.64 billion for constructing new university campuses in various parts of the Kingdom, including three engineering colleges.
Al-Anqari also announced the opening of 10 new university colleges in Alkharj, Huraimala, Arar, Tabuk and Muzahamiya in the beginning of next academic year. “These 10 colleges were constructed at a total cost of SR2 billion,” the minister said, adding that it would benefit 30,000 students.
“We are also making intensive efforts to develop colleges of girls at a cost of SR4 billion,” he said. “We have completed a number of such projects in Makkah, Hafr Al-Baten, Naeeriya, Tabuk and Jeddah,” he said.
Speaking about new projects, Al-Anqari said they include a new community college in Unaizah, an engineering college and a college of computer science and information at Jazan University, a college of engineering and a college of applied medical sciences at Hail University and a college of medicine at Tabuk University.
A new college of medicine will be established at Baha University; a college of engineering and computer science, a college of science and humanities at Salman University; a college of education (Zulfi) and a college of science (Dawadmi) at Shaqra University. The contracts include staff housing units for Northern Border Province University.
“We have signed these contracts as part of government’s efforts to develop infrastructure facilities for universities and colleges. Some of them have already shifted to new campuses,” the minister said. He said the new projects would be implemented following international standards.
Last year, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah launched the first phase of campus projects worth SR81 billion including universities of Jazan, Najran, Alkharj, Hail, Tabuk, Baha, Al-Jouf, Shaqra, Northern Border Province and Majma.
