8,000 workers deployed to prepare for Ramadan at two holy mosques

Over 8,000 men and women workers have been deployed to prepare for Ramadan at the two holy mosques, said Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, head of the Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques.
The workers will ensure that the two holy mosques can receive significant numbers of visitors and pilgrims from Monday, June 24.
Al-Sudais said the services would take into account the expansion of the northern plazas. The ground floor would be completed and 20 percent of the first and second floors.
He said the plan would ensure that the inside and outside plazas can accommodate 540,000 worshippers at the same time. The plazas would have a number of electronic and standard billboards, he added.
Work is in full swing to finalize the project, taking into consideration the special architectural style of the Grand Mosque.
A temporary mataf, or circumambulation area, was established for persons with special needs, said Al-Sudais, aligning with the old corridor at 12 meters wide and 13 meters high.
“The temporary mataf consists of two floors with two entrances and an emergency exit,” said Al-Sudais.
Water utilities to serve the plazas on all sides will be completed, with 5,384 water facilities, 4,336 areas for ablution, 1,872 drinking machines, 250 plaza fans and 272 roof fans.
