BIRZEIT, West Bank: Dozens of Palestinian students blocked the car of a British diplomat, some even jumping on the hood, to prevent his speech at a West Bank university.
The consul general, Sir Vincent Fean, was to speak at the Palestinian university of Birzeit yesterday but following the incident, the speech was canceled. As the diplomat arrived in Birzeit and stepped out of the vehicle, several students swarmed around him, blocking his passage. Palestinian security guards pushed him back into the car, which then left.
Activist Saed Qasrawi says the students had intended to organize a peaceful protest against British policy toward Palestinians, but their rally quickly turned into the incident.
