DUBAI: The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary this March by launching a program of special events in Bangkok as well as 50 new tour packages.
“Last year, we received 372,987 tourists from the Middle East and 10,914 were Saudi citizens. We welcomed 83,624 travelers from the United Arab Emirates and 16,281 from Bahrain,” TAT’s Middle East director Pramoth Supyan told Arab News.
“In 2009, there was a 4.75% growth in tourist arrivals despite the recession hitting many countries.”
The 50 tour packages have been designed to be environmentally friendly while offering travelers new experiences, with an emphasis on luxury and wellness.
“We will continue to develop our activities worldwide and ensure Thailand’s position as a leading destination is maintained. We remain committed to ensuring that all possible care is given to visitors not only during their stay in Thailand, but also prior to and after their visit," Supyan added.
TAT has created an online Thailand Fan Club social networking site as part of the many promotions and activities conducted within the Middle East. The site offers various exclusive competitions, such as a photo competition.
“Moreover, our website currently has Arabic content and is very useful for tourists from the region. The website also has the option to chat online with tourism staff,” Supyan said.
The 50th anniversary program launches March 23.
