The forum will focus on seven thematic areas of petrochemicals, oil refinery and related technologies that are serving the Saudi economy, since the petrochemical industry is playing a pivotal role in Saudi Arabia’s current and future economy. The experts will exchange the latest expertise and knowledge in these areas.
The forum will draw the interest of decision makers and experts from the ministries of Oil and Mineral Resources, Transport, Commerce and Industry, Saudi Aramco, Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC), the Council of Saudi Chambers, KACST, and Oxford University, in addition to engineers and technicians engaged in petrochemicals.
Earlier, KACST and Oxford University agreed to set up a joint research center in the field of petrochemicals called KACST and Oxford Petrochemicals Research Center (KOPRC).
The center is tasked to carry out applied research projects in the field of petroleum refinery and petrochemical industries. The center is also in charge of organizing symposia, conferences and workshops between the two parties in addition to providing scientific consultations in the petrochemical field.
The above joint work between KACST and the University of Oxford is considered the first of its type in the Arab world in the petrochemical field and comes within the strategic plan set by KACST aimed to transfer and localize petrochemicals technology in the Kingdom.
