The criminal court in Jeddah sentenced a foreign national to jail term and flogging for making arrangements for young Internet customers to watch porn sites to earn money.
The man, working as security guard at a café in Jeddah’s Al-Safa District, was awarded a two-month jail term and 50 lashes. The court also ordered to deport him after serving jail term and flogging, Al-Watan Arabic daily reported yesterday.
Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia) arrested the man earlier. The Haia members had noticed that the café was kept open during prayer time, and when they entered it they found the security guard in an embarrassing position. On inspection, it was found that some youths were watching porn sites.
It was revealed during investigations that the security guard misused the opportunity when the café staff had gone to the mosque to earn money by luring some youths to watch porn sites. The foreigner managed to store porn sites in a laptop through Internet proxy and showed them to youths during prayer time. While confessing to the crime during trial, the accused admitted that he used to engage in this practice simply to earn money. The court ordered his laptop confiscated.
