A prominent Indian expatriate from the Konkan region in Maharashtra state has urged fellow compatriots to do their part in promoting educational activities in their home country.
Rafiq Rahiman Dalwai spoke at an iftar party in Riyadh organized by Konkan Committee-Riyadh (KCR) of which he is the president. Nearly 1,000 members of the Konkan community from Riyadh, Alkhobar and Dammam attended the event. According to Dalwai, the Konkan Committee has been adopting a number of students with financial needs for many years now year under its Educational Adoption Scheme or EASE.
“The aim of our association is to increase the rate literacy in Konkan,” he said. “We want to ensure that no student from our area remains uneducated.”
Dalwai urged Indian expatriates to encourage their children to take up government jobs in India.
“This is necessary, but unfortunately our children are not taking up employment in ministries and other government departments such as the police force, defense, customs and merchant navy,” he said.
He advised all members of the community to follow the rules of host country in letter and spirit.
“All of us are the ambassadors of our country and we must ensure that we are not involved in any activity that runs counter to the Kingdom’s laws and regulations,” he said.
Dalwai praised the efforts of his deputy Tajammul Pangarkar and his team for doing an excellent job in coordinating the event. Among those who spoke at the event were Wajihuddin Parkar, Sarwar Karjikar, Muzaffar Ibrahim Alsurkar, Abdullah Hunerkar, Faiz Maruf, Faiz Malim, Hidayat Jamadar and Zainulabideen Nakhwa.
Also present at the iftar party were representatives of various airlines such as Jet Airways, Fly Dubai, Air India, Qatar Airways, Gulf Air and Etihad Airways.
Mushtaq Yousuf Dalvi anchored the event.
