Haia car chase to be probed

Baha Gov. Prince Mishari bin Saud yesterday expressed deep sorrow over the death of a Saudi man and the serious injuries to his wife and two children following a car chase involving them and officials of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia).
Local press identified the victim as Abdul Rahman Ahmed Nasser Al-Ghamdi, 34.
He said: “We have set up a high-level committee to find out the facts that led to this painful incident.”
He added he would personally follow the investigation. “I will also make sure that such incidents are not repeated.”
Prince Mishari emphasized the need for taking utmost care and caution when dealing with human lives.
“We have detained all persons involved in this incident for investigation and those who caused the accident will be prosecuted.” Prince Mishari said the incident took place as a result of a misunderstanding between the victim and Haia members.
He conveyed his condolences to the victim’s family and wished his wife and children a speedy recovery.
He expressed anguish over the way the situation was handled by Haia officials.
According to one report, Saudi authorities have arrested four Haia members who allegedly caused the death.
Security agencies arrested the members after they were questioned on Sunday over the chase, reported Okaz Arabic daily.
The men will be charged with abusing power and chasing a man with his family, ignoring instructions given to members of the commission completely banning such pursuits, it added.
