10 Saudi cities shiver as mercury dips further

RIYADH: Ten Saudi cities registered sub-zero temperatures on Sunday, some of the coldest days recorded this winter, with more expected to come.
Hail was the coldest at -6, Tarif -5 and Arar -3. Riyadh was colder than 10 European capitals and cities. The Saudi capital, registered 1 degree Celsius on Sunday at 6 a.m.. In Paris at the same time it was 8 degrees, London 5, Istanbul 7, Geneva 9, Barcelona 12, Warsaw 4, Athens 5 and Amsterdam 5.
Schools were closed by the government in some regions, including Hail. Education Minister Ahmad Al-Essa canceled all morning assemblies until the end of the week.
The Presidency of Meteorology and Environment expects the cold snap to continue across the country, with temperatures ranging between zero and 5 degrees.
